Breast Lift Surgery

Breast lift surgery (Mastopexy)

Mastopexy, also called breast lift surgery, removes excess breast skin to raise, reshape and firm breasts.

What is Mastopexy surgery?

Loss of skin elasticity, gravity and other factors such as weight loss, pregnancy and breast-feeding ultimately affect the shape and firmness of a woman’s breasts. Mastopexy can help raise, reshape and firm breasts. The nipples and areola are repositioned, and the areola sometimes may be reduced in size.

Mastopexy is sometimes required after breast augmentation, as breast augmentation alone will not correct sagging breasts. Pregnancy and breast-feeding may affect the size and shape of your breasts so we recommend that you only undertake this surgery if you do not plan to later become pregnant.

How it works

1. REFERRAL

We require a GP referral for all surgical procedures. Please book in with your GP to discuss and obtain a referral.

2. CONSULTATION

After referral, you will have two consultations with our team prior to booking in your procedure. The first consultation will be with the surgeon who will be performing your procedure and will be in-person – this is a great time to discuss the specifics of your situation, the outcomes you are hoping to achieve, your personal health and lifestyle concerns and attributes, along with all possible treatment options, the recovery process and any risks involved. Your second consultation may be with your surgeon again, or could be with another of our team who is qualified to consult on your treatment. At least one consultation must be in-person at one of our practices.

After your two consultation appointments, you can provide signed consent for the decided upon treatment and your procedure will be booked in. There is a 7 day cooling off period from the day of your signed consent.

If you are under the age of 18 years, please contact us directly to discuss your consultation process as it will differ to the process for adult patients.

3. THE PROCEDURE

There are many different methods of performing a Mastopexy. The technique that is best for you will be determined by your individual needs and personal preferences. Your surgeon will discuss which of these options are most suitable for you.

4. POST
PROCEDURE
CARE

We recommend an overnight stay in hospital after your surgery.

Recovery after any surgery usually takes around 6 weeks. The first two weeks require rest and wearing a supportive bra.

It is recommended that you avoid the gym and vigorous exercise for 6 weeks after surgery.

RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS

Potential risks associated with the procedure comprise bleeding and infection (<5%).

Should significant bleeding occur, it may require a return to the operating room for necessary repair.
